Our Staff

Highlander educates children in grades K-8, with two classes each in grades K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8, and one class each in grades 5 and 6.

Each classroom has a maximum of 18 students with one full-time certified teacher. Kindergarten has 16 students with one full-time teacher and one full-time teaching assistant. In addition, there are foster grandparents in grades K-5 and Americorp team members and MET School interns in many of the classrooms. A full-time School Nurse/Teacher, a full-time fitness teacher, a full-time art teacher for grades K-4, a part-time computer teacher, and a half-time art teacher for grades 5-8, are also part of the Highlander Team.

The Administrative Team is composed of the Head of School, and the Assistant Head of School. The school’s Bilingual Receptionist/Secretary, Administrative Manager/Admissions Director, Business Manager, Chief Financial Officer, Maintenance Supervisor, and Bus Driver support the daily operation of the school.

The Learning Resources Team consists of three resource teachers, a Speech Language Pathologist, an Occupational Therapist, a School Psychologist, and a Social Worker. In addition, the school employs many Orton Gillingham Tutors, one Wilson Reading tutor, two teaching assistants in addition to the Kindergarten TAs, and interns in social work and psychology from local universities. An Educational Consultant serves as an advisor to the Learning Resources Team and a mentor to new teachers.

Our after-school program is funded with a 21st Century Grant, allowing us to hire a full-time Director of the 21st Century Learning Community program and to hire staff, including Americorps teams.
