Homework Procedures

In order to keep all of our work organized we need to have a specific homework procedure in First Grade.  Each student will receive a red take home folder with two pockets.  One pocket is for things that are to stay at home (handouts, finished work, Highlights), and the other pocket is for things that need to be returned the next day (homework, permission slips).

Every student will get a homework packet and a reading log on Monday.  Everyday (Monday night à Thursday night) the students will need to return the reading log section of the homework.  The homework packet will include practice work and a mini book that can be read at home.  The homework packet can be done at the parents’ discretion and is due every Friday.  There won’t be any homework over the weekends.

Students must complete their reading log every night and parents/ guardians must sign it every night in order for the students to get credit for their hard work.  This daily practice helps them to become strong, confident readers and will help them to feel successful both in the classroom, and at home.  They will look like this:

Below is a list of suggested supplies for our 1st grade class.  You are not required to buy any of these items for your child.  Everything he or she needs for school will be provided.  However, the more items families choose to donate from this list, the more classroom funds will be available for other classroom expenses.  The list goes as follows:

Ø

package of yellow pencils

Ø

erasers

Ø

box of crayons

Ø

box of colored pencils

Ø

box of markers

Ø

pencil sharpener

Ø

glue sticks

Ø

box of tissues

Ø

Clorox wipes

Ø

bags or large containers of healthy snacks (raisins, crackers, pretzels)

Supplies can be collected at home visits and throughout the school year to create a classroom collection for students to share and use throughout their time in IB.

I look forward to working with you and your child closely to ensure a wonderful classroom experience for us all.  We can discuss any questions or concerns at our upcoming home visit, which I will be scheduling soon.

Welcome

to

1B!
