Science at Highlander combines use of Science Kits maintained by the East Bay Education Collaborative and integration of science-literacy connections. We look for opportunities to encourage inquiry and to make real-life connections across grade levels. Students are expected to be able to communicate scientific thinking and to present project work before an audience of school community members.
Science Week takes place in late winter. During the week, students are engaged in class and school-wide activities and field trips and we host visitors from organizations such as Brown University, the Audubon Society of Rhode Island (http://www.asri.org/) and Save the Bay (http://www.savebay.org)
The links above are to a couple of videos that we watch in 7th and 8th grade in our study of planetary science and introduction to physics.
