The Expanded Learning Time Office at Highlander Charter School focuses on expanding the academic time and the enrichment opportunities for Highlander students and families.

Included in this office are the Highlander AmeriCorps team, Parent Cafes, a host of part-time staff members, volunteers and program instructors.

The Highlander AmeriCorps team works to connect the in-school and afterschool learning by providing classroom assistance during the school day and implementing high-quality afterschool enrichment during the afternoon.

Part-time Afterschool Coordinators work each afternoon to provide academic assistance as well as programming that exposes Highlander students to new and exciting opportunities such as Hip Hop Dance, Science Art, Puppet-Making, Basketball, and Drama Club.

Community members work as volunteers and instructors to round out program offerings even further, teaching Highlander students Latin Dance, Role-Playing Games, Piano Lessons, Songwriting, Karate, and more.  Still other community members offer workshops and seminars to families during bi-weekly Parent Cafés, provided in the evenings along with childcare and snacks.

Parent Cafés are open to the public and are advertised at local businesses.

The Expanded Learning Time office also works to connect students and families with vacation and summer camps that meet student and family needs.
